Legislators Speak Candidly About the Environment

The recent Environmental Leadership Forum (ELF) at the West Hollywood home of CLCV’s new Board Chairman, Rick Zbur, featured conversations between four outstanding new California Assemblymembers and the members of CLCV's ELF program.

Attending were Assemblymembers Betsy Butler (AD 53), Mike Gatto (AD 43), Holly Mitchell (AD 47) and Das Williams (AD 35). Each of the Assemblymembers spoke of their environmental legislative priorities and the problems and progress around environmental protection in the state (video will be posted on ecovote.org in the near future). California is in good hands with legislators like these!

Sadly, according to nearly every poll, California voters express a disdain for the legislature as though all legislators were pariahs, crooks and miscreants. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The California legislature has crafted and passed some of the most visionary environmental laws on the planet. Because of legislators like these, California has led the way in cleaning up air pollution, water pollution, led on water conservation, protecting open space and the fight against global warming to list just a few accomplishments. These freshman legislators follow in that tradition, working for the people to solve the people’s problems, addressing people’s needs, protecting the environment they live in.

One of CLCV’s primary missions is to help elect legislators dedicated to protecting California’s natural treasurers and the public’s health. In endorsing and campaigning for Assemblymembers Butler, Gatto, Mitchell and Williams CLCV fulfilled that mission. In staying true to the vision that caused us to support them, these exceptional people are making California a better, healthier place to live.
